He received a B.E (Hons) from BITS Pilani in 1981 and a Ph.D in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois in 1985. He has been a faculty member at the University of Wisconsin-Madison since graduation where he currently a John P. Morgridge Professor and a Vilas Research Professor. His research has been in the design of high-performance microprocessors and computer systems. Results from his research can be found in almost every high-end microprocessor in the market in the last couple of decades. He has received the 1999 ACM SIGARCH Maurice Wilkes award, the 2011 ACM/IEEE Eckert-Mauchly Award, and the 2016 IEEE B. Ramakrishna Rau Award. At the University of Wisconsin he was selected as a Vilas Associate in 1997, awarded a WARF Kellett Mid-Career Faculty Researcher award in 2000, a WARF Named Professor in 2007, and a Vilas Research Professor in 2015. He is a Fellow of both the ACM and the IEEE and is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and a Fellow of the American Academy of the Arts and Sciences.

Dr. Deepak Poola Chandrashekar, received his B.E (Computer Science) from Visvesvaraya Technological University. He was awarded by the Tata Foundation for securing first in the district for his batch. He then received his M.E (Computer Science) from BITS Pilani. Deepak, further pursued his PhD in cloud computing from the University of Melbourne, Australia. His research was primarily focussed on Cloud computing environments. He currently works with IBM as a Cloud Solutions Architect and is the Industry Expert for the Departmental Academic Committee (DAC) in NIT Raipur. Deepak is actively working in areas such as cloud computing, data analytics, blockchain, and IoT. He has published in the areas of Cloud Computing, Machine Learning, Cognitive Computing and Data Warehousing. He is passionate about travelling, photography and poetry among other varied interests.
Aditya Sarma, a 2017 batch Computer Science graduate from BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus has worked as a Research Assistant at the prestigious Machine and Language Learning Lab at IISC Bangalore, where he worked on creating a distributed crawler, a PU classifier and relation extraction algorithms.
He is currently a Research Fellow at Wadhwani AI, the world-renowned independent research institute and global hub, developing AI solutions for social good. His team consists of distinguished innovators, scientists and entrepreneurs from Stanford, Cornell, Yale and ex-employees from tech giants. His current work involves building a video-based anthropometry tool using parametric neonate models to effectively catch many of the millions of low birth weight babies that are missed each year. He has also contributed to Apache Mahout as part of GSOC’17 where he worked on implementation of DBSCAN.
At BITS, he has worked under Dr. Poonam Goyal at the ADAPT lab on building large-scale clustering algorithms and his undergraduate thesis work was accepted as a full research paper in the IEEE Cluster Computing Conference. He has also worked under Dr. Jagdish Raheja ( CSIR-CEERI, Pilani ) and Dr. Lavika Goel at the Multimedia and HCI Lab.
Danish Pruthi is a PhD. student at Language Technologies Institute at Carnegie Mellon University. Broadly, his research aims to enable machines to understand and explain natural language phenomenon. He completed his bachelor’s degree in computer science from BITS Pilani, Pilani in 2015. He has also spent time doing research at Facebook AI Research, Microsoft Research, Google, and Indian Institute of Science. He is a recipient of the Siebel Scholarship, and CMU Presidential Fellowship.
